About Naazneen Ashfur
Hello!! I am Naazneen Ashfur.
I am currently pursuing a diploma in Information Security and Forensics in the School of Infocomm Technology at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Through my 3 years of study, I hope to sharpen my networking and information security skills so as to get into a good university/work in the future. |
Why ISF? Why ICT?
In this highly advanced and globalized world, Information Technology(IT) plays a crucial role. IT has been evolving more than ever to suit the needs of the current world. Together with the success of the growing IT industry, the rate of cybercrimes and security issues has been on the rise. From a young age, I have been under the influence of IT since most of my family members are either working under the IT sector or studying IT.
My dad was one of my biggest inspiration (he works as a IT Data analyst). All these influences lead me to the strong belief that I wanted to work under the IT sector. Watching tv shows (CSI, Crimewatch) and reading books about cybercrimes and such got me interested in Information Security. I strongly believed that if you have the power to control the networking systems, then you have the power to control the whole world. So as to ensure that this power doesn’t fall into the wrong hands, information security is really important.
Since the age of 15, I have been eyeing the Information Security and Forensics (ISF) course in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. But due to the fact that I was scoring really average scores of 14 and 15 for my L1R4, I felt as though my dream will remain as a dream. Therefore, I had a backup plan of joining Digital Forensics in Temasek Polytechnic. But eventually, I managed put in my 100% and got 8 points for my L1R4 and managed to get into this course. My dream job based on this course would actually be digital forensics investigator or a penetration tester (also known as an ethical hacker). For me to achieve this dream job, I need to have tonnes of experience in the IT field and also the necessary qualifications. Therefore, in order to achieve that, I’d have to go to the National University of Singapore and pursue a Bachelor of Computing in Information Security. Furthermore, I’d also have to get prior experience in this field so I would love to start off as a Security Consultant or Security Analyst.
